Oaklands is a Catholic Voluntary (Aided) School taking in boys and girls from 11-18, which has been established by the Diocese of Portsmouth for the education of Catholic children who live within the former designated parish catchment area allocated to the school.

In addition, Oaklands also takes in a number of children from other Christian denominations whose parents have specifically requested a catholic education at the School. Oaklands has nearly 1400 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of 200 students.

The students are drawn from a very wide area extending from Hayling Island in the south to Petersfield in the north and from the Sussex border in the east to Denmead and Hambledon in the west. Being a Catholic School means, that we receive more and more students whose parents decided to move to the UK from various countries and would like their children to be educated in a faith school.

At their school they celebrate Christmas and other religious traditions within the Catholic Church calendar. They have a carol concert, Ash Wednesday liturgy and other feasts day celebrations. They are a multinational community with students and teachers from different countries therefore their students would benefit from learning about other cultures and traditions across Europe. The school canteen produces a range of international dishes which students can try a range of international dishes which students can try. The students also learn to cook and bake during food technology lessons and take part in international food trips to France and Italy.

They have been taking part in several international projects in the last 7 years with different schools around Europe. These projects are well supported by our staff and headteacher who see real value in international learning and always seek opportunities to expand this further. Students are thaught IT skills across curriculum and in descrete IT lessons, therefore they are able to apply their IT skills in different aspects of school life. Teachers use IT on daily basis – creating documents, reports, using applications and presentation information. It would be difficult to imagine our school day without computers. The website of the school is available here.
